Can someone else drive the car?

Only if they are named on the rental agreement. An unregistered driver typically voids the cover entirely.

Driver requirements

Anyone who drives must be listed on the agreement and must present their own licence at the counter. This is not administrative box-ticking: if an unlisted person is driving during an incident, suppliers routinely treat the damage waiver as void and pursue the full cost.

  • Additional drivers are usually charged per day, though some rates or loyalty tiers include one.
  • Every additional driver must meet the same age and licence-held requirements as the main driver.
  • They need to be present at pickup with their licence — they cannot be added in absentia at most suppliers.
  • In some countries a spouse or civil partner is included automatically. Confirm rather than assume.

Rental terms differ by supplier, country and vehicle class. This article describes what usually applies — the agreement you sign at the counter is what governs your rental, so read it before signing.
